“We are all writers!” That is what author, Kat Gomez-Limchoc encouraged all the 450-plus grade 4 to grade 6 students of Assumption San Lorenzo to say. In a gymnasium filled with raptly listening girls, she taught them that they were all storytellers, and that telling their stories was important.

Invited to be the “Meet the Author” guest at the annual Reading and Literature Festival in Assumption College, Kat gave an interactive lecture, featuring the stories she created with her team in her advertising creative role, as well as the stories she’s told in her books, “Book of 40”, “Princess Liv and the Strange Creatures”, and “Nagmalitong Yawa”.

Kat then led an activity where she taught the young girls how to write “6 word stories”. From a prompt about writing about your pet or an animal, Kat’s favorite story shared to her was, “I forgot to feed my fish.” Before which the young storyteller said, “Don’t tell my sister!”

Over the last few years, Kat has spoken in the Reading and Literature Festival of Assumption to different grade levels. It is her way of giving back to her alma mater, where because of her freshman English teacher, she unlocked her love of writing.
